Welcome to the Young Leaders area. The Young Leaders' Scheme is just one of the exciting programme elements in the Explorer Scout section. All Leaders in the Beaver Scout, Cub Scout and Scout Section who are between the ages of 14 and 18 must be members of the Young Leaders Unit. The Young Leaders' Scheme helps Explorer Scouts to develop and grow as individuals. It allows them to make a valuable contribution to their community and give service to others - the scheme also helps them fulfil the service elements of their awards.

There are eleven training modules available to support you in your role as a Young Leader:

this unit covers the purpose and method of Scouting, child protection issues and 'Policy, Organisation & Rules'

 

module b: taking the lead!

this unit covers leadership styles and what makes a good and bad leader

 

module c: that's the way to do it!

this unit covers teaching skills, winning and keeping their attention

this unit covers challenging behaviour, triggers and causes, dealing with the problem and codes of conduct

 

module e: game on!

this unit covers games!

 

module f: special people

this unit covers special needs

 

module g: programme plans

this unit covers the balanced programme, programme zones and methods

 

module h: programme plans plus

this unit covers longer term programme planning

this unit covers good communication, listening to other people, ways of communicating, communicating in the section and making your views count
